Feed Control

The purpose of feed control is to ensure the safety of feed to human and animal health and to the environment, also it should have the favourable effect on animal and livestock products.

Feed control applies to all feed production, processing and placing on the market, including the feed importation, storing, transportation and supplying.

In Estonia feed control is regulated with feed law and European Parliament and Council Regulation 178/2002 laying down the general principles and feed law requirements, establishing feed safety procedures and establishes the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). In addition to the feed law and its implementing acts, other acts and their implementing acts and also directly applicable European Union legislation are regulating feed control and safety. Specific references to the laws of the Government and Regulation of the Minister and EU legislation are set out in the descriptive part of the legislation.

For feed safety and traceability all feed business operators must submit notice of economic activities to Agriculture and Food board or apply for licence and follow feed hygiene requirements.

According to the Feed Law control and supervision is carried out by the Agriculture and Food Board, Consumer Protection Board and Estonian Tax and Customs Board.
